POBJEDNIK ČETVRTOG SEF FESTIVALA JE.... // WINNER OF THE FOURTH SEF FESTIVAL IS...

FACING FEARS by Almut Dieden

Winner of SEF festival 2017. is film „Facing fears“ by Almut Dieden. Members of the jury  Eva Kraljević, Sandra Urem and Sonja Leboš explained their decision with these words:

„In the film Facing Fears we are following the story of a woman (Jackie Scott) who was surrounded by violence, death and poverty most of her life. Instead of feeling pitty for her , we feel her determination to survive, and above all to gain self-esteem and break the previous form of life.

Through a very tangible story, the author portrated part of social reality regarding the position of a woman, single mothers, former prostitutes, addicts, focusing on Jackie's emotional "transformation" and "growth" through finding her own authenticity . With this approach, the author Almut Dieden has succeeded in showing the universal element of  a desire for life, so we can all identify with her, despite the various life stories.

Facing Fears is a film that gives a very strong impression of the story that, was given "aditional value" trought the film language.“
