WINNER OF THE THIRD SEF FESTIVAL IS....

 

JUGGLERS by Julie Høj Thomsen

 

Pobjednički film ovogodišnjeg festivala je Jugglers autorice Julie Høj Thomsen. Članovi žirija, prof. Tanja Bukovčan i prof Tomislav Pletenac sa Sveučilišta u Zagrebu te redatelj Ivan Ramljak nagradili su ovaj film zbog njegove cjelovitosti, pričanja priče i prezentiranja različitih perspektiva. Također, posebno priznanje i ove godine ide Creative documentary School ACTive!

 

Winner of this year's festival is „Juglers“ from Julie Høj Thomsen. Members of the jury, prof. Tanja Bukovčan and prof. Tomislav Pletenac at University of Zagreb, and film-maker Ivan Ramljak, awarded this film because of its completeness, storytelling and presenting different point of view. Also, special recognition goes again to the Creative documentary School ACTive!

ABOUT THE FILM // O FILMU

​

The young Honduran street artist, Alexander, travels around Central America and earn his living by performing in public spaces. While traveling in Guatemala Alexander receives the news that one of his best friends, 'El Waico' has been killed in their home city, the Honduran capital Tegucigalpa. The film follows Alexander's journey from Guatemala City to Tegucigalpa in his search for answers to the murder of his friend.  Through Alexander’s journey the film explores the social condition of violence, political persecution and impunity, which has dominated Honduran society, since a Coup d’etat replaced the democratically elected president Manuel Zelaya in 2009.  Facing the reality of economic crisis and violent persecution of young people and political opposition, Alexander finds himself forced to leave his country again, in search for a better and more secure future in the neighboring country Guatemala.

Julie Høj Thomsen is a MA student in Visual Anthropology at The University of Manchester, Department of Social Sciences. This is her first film and it premiered at SEF festival!
